What is Tribe?

A tribe consists of people who are united by common interests. A tribe is unique to its own interests and community of people. The meaning of the word tribe slightly varies among different ethnic groups and cultures; however, the common theme between them is unity and togetherness.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word “tribe,” as “1) a social group composed chiefly of numerous families, clans, or generations having a shared ancestry and language; 2) a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest.”

Urban Dictionary defines tribe as, “Close friends, group of people who are loyal to you, care for you like family.”

African Tribe

In Africa the word tribe is used to describe organizations of people who share community, ethnicity, culture, and language. Tribes are a means of living and sustainability for its people.

Native American Tribe

Native Americans and Indians define the word “tribe” as, “a body of people bound together by blood ties who were socially, politically, and religiously organized, who lived together in a defined territory and who spoke a common language or dialect.”
